Why the Democratic Party is Hiding its 2024 Election Autopsy: An Analysis.

This decision by the Democratic National Committee to withhold the publication of its own autopsy report on the last presidential race appears remarkable but entirely predictable. Averse to hard truths, the party's leadership apparatus often functions closer to a publicity machine rather than an electoral entity devoted to cultivating local power for winning elections.

A Climate That Avoids Dissent

Reluctant to depart from the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has remained under the Biden-Harris shadow all through this past year. Making public an official autopsy might have shown that party leaders truly desire to encourage honest conversation regarding the missteps that enabled Donald Trump to win re-election. Instead, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there's nothing to understand following the electoral catastrophe from the last cycle.

"Here’s our North Star: will this lead to victory? If the answer is no, it’s a distraction from the core mission," an explanation reportedly given to justify concealing the document.

Key Issues an Autopsy Would Have Explored

An autopsy report with any value would confront a series of difficult topics. This encompasses:

  • Electoral Disengagement: The loss among millions of voters who supported the party's candidate during the previous election proved pivotal in the narrowly decided 2024 election.
  • A Decision to Seek Re-election: The stubborn decision of a party leader to seek re-election, and an extremely delayed withdrawal, has been criticized as denying Democratic voters of a competitive nomination process.
  • Abandoning Core Democratic Voters: Amid economic anxiety, the campaign is criticized for bowing to elite contributors while failing to confront the impact of corporate greed.
  • A Gaza Effect: The failure to adjust a policy position regarding a major international conflict reportedly led to alienating significant blocs, notably with youth voters, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • Eroding Youth Support: Polling data demonstrates a huge drop-off of Democratic support from voters aged 18-29.

A History Avoiding Accountability

Choosing secrecy fits a recurring tendency of sidestepping uncomfortable facts. It recalls a situation in which nearly all elected Democrat in Congress went along with a sitting president's determination to seeking another term until a disastrous public debate performance forced an exit.

At the same time, large majorities within the party's base were consistently telling researchers that they did not want that candidate to be the nominee.

Campaign Spending Concerns

An honest analysis would also investigate questions about financial allocations, such as the amounts flowed to party strategists as well as media firms over the course of a campaign that managed to spend an enormous amount over a few months.

The Larger Implication

Ultimately, the suppression regarding the analysis highlights a deference to the established hierarchy responsible for a losing electoral effort. The implication to rank-and-file members – including countless loyal volunteers – is that they cannot be trusted to know what the insiders say they discovered based on an analysis compiled from feedback from all states.

A political entity incapable to critically review its mistakes is unlikely to climb out of the cycle which was so beneficial to their opponents.
