From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team enter locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.
